I’ll admit it to you guys. This summer kind of sucks.
It’s not a good time to be in the event photography business, I’ll tell you that for sure. I have been offering free reschedules to all of my clients due to the pandemic and thankfully we haven’t had any conflicts yet.
Still, I’ve been finding ways to keep busy! Today I thought I would share some of my quarantine projects.
The Chevy C10 Restoration
A year or so ago, I helped my girlfriend get her 1971 Chevrolet C10 running after sitting in a field for about ten years. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to make any more progress on it and it just sat negelcted at our house until this summer.
In my free time, I gave it a full detail, new tires, a new carburetor, new fuel lines, a new battery, new radiator hoses, new belts, etc. It’s running so great now! I even think that I have the a/c almost working. It’s going to be so fun to cruise around in this thing one day soon!
Also, it really is amazing how big a difference a buff/polish job can make on old oxidized paint.
The Rally Car
Most of my clients are pretty surprised to find out that I race cars. It’s not a hobby that a lot of millenials have, I suppose.
Let me introduce you to my 1987 Mitsubishi Starion. This car is the absolute embodiment of the 80s. It has a turbo four-cylinder, roof scoop, and digital dash. Over the summer I have been building and preparing this car for stage rally!
If you aren’t familiar, just know that stage rally takes place on closed public roads, usually dirt, and is one of the most exciting motorsports that you can compete in. It’s also one of the few racing sports where a homegrown team can compete directly against high level teams, like Factory Team Subaru.
I am of course extremely safe. Each car that competes has to have a certified and inspected roll cage, 5-point harnesses, fire suppression system, battery safety disconnect, and head/neck restraint devices. In addition, I wear a full fire suit and helmet. Just to put your mind at ease, there has not been a single recorded death in the series that I race in.
Enough talking, here are some progress pics!
My girlfriend an I noticed a fat pregnant cat wandering around the neighborhood. You know we couldn’t leave her out there!
By the way, does anyone want free kittens when they’re old enough?
Oh yeah, I’m getting married!
Although I miss hanging with friends and attending classes at the University, this summer hasn’t been all bad. I proposed to my girlfriend of four years, Kelsey! She said yes and I’m so happy.
Pretty soon I’m going to find out what it’s like to be on the other side of the lens at a wedding!
